I was rehearsing for a play created by a theater company I am a part of. I used to perform for this company in real life and I did this with my husband, but I haven’t been involved for a few years. People were rehearsing a song in the background. I remember thinking my harmony might be off. Then my handicapped dog, Benny, was playing near some dark pond water and was chasing what i initially thought was a small snake. Then i realized it was an electric eel. By the time I realized, it had grabbed Benny and was alligator rolling him and brought him down to the bottom of the pond. He was helpless. Another eel swam over, and I screamed, feeling like they were going to kill him. I was frozen in decision. If I jumped in to try to save him, I was going to get attacked and maybe electrocuted by these eels, but I also couldn’t stand on the side of the pond and watch him be killed. I could see his sad face at the bottom on the pond. As I woke up, I jumped into get him.
Dreams often reflect our subconscious thoughts, emotions, and experiences, and this one appears rich with symbols and themes that could provide insight into your current feelings and life circumstances.
Theater and Performance: The setting of rehearsing for a play could symbolize a desire for self-expression or a return to something that you once loved or were deeply involved in. This may indicate a longing to reconnect with aspects of your past, particularly your creative side or collaborative relationships, as you mentioned your husband was involved too.
The Dog: Benny, your handicapped dog, likely represents something vulnerable or precious to you. Pets often symbolize loyalty, companionship, and unconditional love, but Benny's handicap might suggest feelings of protectiveness or concern over vulnerability—either in your relationship with him or in your life in general.
The Electric Eels: The electric eels could symbolize unexpected threats or challenges that leave you feeling powerless. They may represent a situation or emotion that feels dangerous or out of control, especially if you feel you have limited options for dealing with it. The fact that they are in a dark pond could also suggest you are confronting fears or issues that are deep-seated or previously hidden.
The Dilemma: Your internal conflict about whether to jump in and save Benny speaks to feelings of helplessness and the struggle between taking risks vs. protecting oneself. This could reflect a current situation in your waking life where you feel torn between your instincts to protect something or someone you care about and the fear of putting yourself in harm's way.
The Conclusion: Waking up as you jumped in to save him suggests a desire to act decisively in the face of fear. It may reflect an inner strength or readiness to confront challenges directly, even when they seem overwhelming.
Overall, this dream seems to embody complex feelings of nostalgia, vulnerability, fear, and the struggle for action. Consider reflecting on what aspects of your life feel uncertain or threatened, and how your past connections may influence your present situation. It may also encourage you to explore ways to reintegrate lost passions or face challenges in a proactive manner.
